Scan credits & allowances

Security · Last updated 16 July 2026

Some of the heavier checks TLDTrack runs, the ones that spin up a cloud scanner, a real browser or an AI reviewer, draw on scan credits, shown in the app as monitoring credits. This page explains exactly which checks share that pool, how each check spends credits, what your plan includes each month, and where the separate visual meter fits in.

What it is

A single shared balance of credits on your organisation that the deeper checks draw from: security scans, SEO health audits, accessibility scans, compliance checks, journey test runs and URL insight reports. It is made up of a monthly included allowance that resets on the 1st of each month, plus any top-up credits you have bought, which never expire.

The balance lives on your organisation, so it is shared across your whole team, not per user. Every check spends your monthly allowance first and only draws on purchased credits once the allowance is used up. If an SEO, accessibility or compliance check fails, its credits are handed back.

Why it matters

These checks cost real money to run (a cloud scanner, a real browser, or an AI model reading your pages), so they are metered rather than unlimited. Pooling them into one balance means you spend your allowance on whatever you actually need this month, instead of juggling separate quotas.

The pool keeps the pricing honest. You are only ever charged for the deep, compute-heavy work. The everyday monitoring that runs in the background, uptime, SSL, DNS and expiry, costs nothing and never touches this balance.

What draws from the scan-credit pool

These checks share the one credit balance:

  • Security scans. A security scan of one site.
  • SEO health audits. A crawl of your pages checking for broken links and on-page SEO problems.
  • Accessibility scans. A WCAG audit of your pages.
  • Compliance checks. An AI review of your page content against your own policies and rules.
  • Journey tests. Each run of a journey test, scheduled or started by hand.
  • URL insights. Each on-demand site report.

Because they share one balance, a credit you did not spend on a security scan is available for an SEO audit or an accessibility scan instead.

How each check spends credits

Checks are priced in two ways:

  • Fixed-price checks. A baseline security scan costs 2 credits and a full security scan costs 8. A journey test run costs 5, and so does a URL insight report.
  • SEO, accessibility and compliance checks are priced by the number of pages they cover: one credit per ten pages, rounded up, with a minimum of one credit for any run. A 25-page audit costs three credits; a single-page check still costs one.

Refunds for failed checks

If an SEO, accessibility or compliance check fails, its credits are returned, and if it ends up covering fewer pages than it reserved credits for, the difference is returned. If a security scan fails or is cancelled, credits it took from a top-up pack are returned, but credits taken from the monthly allowance are not.

Your monthly included allowance

Starter, Pro and Agency include a monthly credit allowance: 250 credits on Starter, 1,250 on Pro and 5,000 on Agency. The free plan does not include credits. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month, so unused allowance does not roll over. Purchased top-up credits are different: they sit on top of the allowance and never expire.

Buying more when you run out

If you use up your monthly allowance and your purchased credits, a check that needs credits does not run until you top up. You can buy a top-up pack at any time: 100 credits for £25, 300 for £60 or 750 for £120 (or $32, $75 and $150 if you are billed in US dollars). Those credits land in the same shared pool and can be spent on any check that uses credits. There is nothing to configure: buy a pack and your balance goes up once the payment completes.

  1. 1
Open Billing to see your balance in the Monitoring credits card: how much of your monthly allowance you have used, when it resets, and how many credits you have left.
  2. 2
If you are low, press Buy credits and choose a pack. You pay through a secure Stripe checkout.
  3. 3
The credits are added to your shared pool and are ready for your next security, SEO, accessibility, compliance or journey check.

A worked example

Say you are on Starter, with 250 credits a month, and you start the month with no purchased credits. Here is how a busy month might play out:

  • You run four baseline security scans across your sites. That is 8 credits from your allowance, leaving 242.
  • You run an SEO audit over 30 pages. That costs three credits (one per ten pages), leaving 239.
  • You set up a journey test that runs daily. Each run costs 5 credits, so 30 runs over the month use 150, leaving 89.
  • You run a full security scan for 8 credits, leaving 81.
  • Once the allowance reaches zero, further checks draw on purchased credits, so you buy a 100-credit pack. Whatever is left of the pack carries into next month, when your allowance resets to 250.

The takeaway: every check that uses credits spends the monthly allowance first and purchased credits second, and a top-up pack covers all of them.

What does NOT use the scan pool

Some things are kept apart from the scan-credit pool on purpose:

  • Visual checks. Visual monitoring and brand-consistency checks draw from a separate visual-credit meter with its own monthly allowance: 150 on Starter, 600 on Pro and 2,000 on Agency. Each check uses one visual credit, and there are no top-up packs for visual credits. Running more frequent visual checks spends more of this meter, not your scan credits.
  • Content checks. Content-check rules do not use credits at all.

And the always-on monitoring, uptime, SSL, DNS and domain expiry, uses no credits at all. It runs on its own schedule in the background whatever your balance says.

Separate balances, not one

It helps to picture separate meters: scan credits (security, SEO, accessibility, compliance, journeys and URL insights) and visual credits (visual and brand checks). AI search checks have their own AI search credits again. Running out of one never stops the others, and topping one up does not affect the rest.

Good to know

  • The balance is per organisation and shared across your whole team, not per user.
  • Your monthly credit allowance resets on the 1st of each month; purchased credits never expire.
  • For the page-based checks, cost is one credit per ten pages rounded up, minimum one credit, so a small site is cheap to audit.
  • Failed or smaller-than-expected SEO, accessibility and compliance runs are refunded automatically. A failed or cancelled security scan returns only the credits it took from a top-up pack.
  • Everyday uptime, SSL, DNS and expiry monitoring never uses credits.
