DNS monitoring

Know when your DNS records change

DNS monitoring watches the records that point your domain at its website and email. TLDTrack reads the A, AAAA, MX, NS, CNAME and TXT records on every domain every few hours and alerts you with the exact record that was added or removed.

01 · Why it matters

Why DNS monitoring matters

DNS is the silent layer of your website. When it breaks, everything breaks, and most monitoring tools never look at it.

Catch accidental edits

Someone updates an MX record and the email goes dark. TLDTrack alerts you with the record that was removed and the one that replaced it.

Spot a hijack early

If someone gets into a registrar account, the nameservers are often the first thing they change. NS changes alert like any other record.

No false "removed" alerts

A lookup that fails or times out keeps the last known value, so a DNS hiccup never looks like a deleted record.

Quiet where you want it

Mute alerts by record type, as a default for every domain or for one domain. Muted records are still tracked. Try our free DNS propagation checker for a one-off look at any domain.

02 · Records monitored

Every DNS record type, read

A

AAAA

MX

TXT

CNAME

NS

SOA

CAA

A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS and TXT records on the domain itself are compared every few hours and alert when they change. SOA and CAA are read and shown on the domain but do not alert. The full records view also finds subdomains from common names and certificate logs, up to 500 per domain, and shows their records for reference.

SPF lives in a TXT record, so a changed SPF record raises an alert too. How SPF monitoring works

04 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

How often do you check DNS records?

Every few hours. When a record changes, you are alerted after the next check, with the record that was added and the one that was removed.

Which DNS resolvers do you query?

Google Public DNS, with Cloudflare as a fallback. Large TXT sets are fetched in full, retrying over TCP when a reply is too big.

Can I monitor DNS for domains hosted anywhere?

Yes. TLDTrack works regardless of registrar or DNS provider, Cloudflare, Route 53, Namecheap, GoDaddy, your own bind server, anywhere.

Who gets DNS change alerts?

The account owner and admins by email, plus the mobile app, and Slack, Microsoft Teams or a signed webhook on paid plans. You choose which record types alert, for all domains or for one.

Are subdomains watched for changes?

Change alerts cover the records on the domain itself. Subdomain records found by the full records view are shown for reference and do not alert.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every paid plan comes with a 7-day free trial, and your card is not charged for 7 days. If TLDTrack is not right for you, cancel during the trial and you won't be charged.
