Website content monitoring

Website content monitoring for every page that matters

Website content monitoring checks what is in a page's source, not just whether it loads. TLDTrack runs your rules on every site on the schedule you set, from hourly to weekly: a keyword or tracking tag still there, no placeholder text, the homepage not blocked from search, security headers sent, private files kept private. You get an alert when a check starts failing.

01 · Works together

Watching for changes as well

Content checks look for specific things in the page source. To be alerted when an area of a page, a price or a line of text changes, use change monitoring alongside them.

Website change monitoring

Visual and element monitors compare a page with the version you approved and alert you when it changes.

02 · Why it matters

Why content monitoring matters

A page can load perfectly and still be wrong. Most monitoring tools only check that it loads.

A tag goes missing

A redesign or plugin update drops Google Tag Manager or a tracking ID, and the client's reporting goes quiet. Keyword rules look inside scripts too, so a tag ID counts.

A site drops out of search

robots.txt or a noindex tag blocks the homepage after a launch or migration. The blocked-from-search check reads both, the way Google does.

Placeholder text goes live

Lorem ipsum, the word "placeholder" or last year's copyright date on a page the client is paying for.

Something private is public

wp-login.php, readme.html or a file that should never be reachable starts answering to anyone.

03 · What we check

Set a rule, check what matters

Apply a rule to one site, several, or all of them.

Keyword present or absent

Alert if a phrase appears, or disappears, on a page. With "present", text inside scripts counts too, so you can check a tag ID is on the page.

Blocked from search

Reads robots.txt from the host the homepage lands on, plus noindex meta tags and X-Robots-Tag headers.

Meta tags

A title and meta description are present, and the page loads no insecure content.

Security headers

HSTS, Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options or any header you name is still being sent.

Files and URLs

A file that must be there returns 200, a page that should be private is not public, and HTTP still redirects to HTTPS.

PageSpeed floor

Fails when the latest weekly PageSpeed score is below the minimum you set, for mobile, desktop or both.

Images and links

Broken images on the page, up to 30 per page, and any links you list are checked for errors.

04 · Templates

Start with a ready-made template

19 templates in six groups. Apply one to every site in a couple of clicks, then adjust it. They include:

WordPress

  • Database connection error showing
  • Stuck in maintenance mode
  • Debug output exposed
  • Login page open to anyone

Security

  • HSTS header missing
  • Content-Security-Policy missing
  • X-Frame-Options missing
  • HTTP not redirected to HTTPS

SEO

  • Homepage blocked from search
  • robots.txt missing, broken or newly blocking
  • Meta tags missing
  • sitemap.xml missing
  • Copyright year out of date

Save any rule as your own template, and sites you add later can pick it up automatically. Content checks use no credits.

06 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from uptime monitoring?

Uptime tells you a page loaded. Content checks tell you whether what is on it is still right: the tag is there, the page is not blocked from search, nothing private is exposed.

Will it alert me when any text on a page changes?

No. Content checks look for specific things. To be alerted when an area of a page, a price or a line of text changes, use website change monitoring.

How often are pages checked?

On the schedule you set for each rule: hourly, every 6 hours, every 12 hours, daily or weekly. You can also press Run now on any rule.

When do alerts go out?

When a check starts failing. You hear about it once, rather than at every check while it stays broken.

What alerts can I get?

Email and SMS (SMS uses prepaid credits), plus push notifications through the iOS and Android apps. On paid plans you can also send alerts to Slack, Microsoft Teams and signed webhooks.

Does it work on any website?

Yes, any public page on any platform, whether or not you host it. Pages are read without running JavaScript, so text that only appears after scripts run is not seen. WordPress sites get extra checks through the free plugin.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every paid plan comes with a 7-day free trial and your card is not charged for 7 days. If it is not right for you, cancel during the trial and you won't be charged.
