Heatmaps & click hotspots

See exactly where visitors click, scroll and stop

Click maps, scroll maps and a most-clicked list for every page, drawn over a screenshot of the real thing. No cookies, no session recording, and no extra tag to install if you already run TLDTrack error tracking.

01 · Why it matters

Analytics tells you what happened. Heatmaps show you where.

A pageview count cannot tell you that nobody scrolls past the hero, or that people keep clicking an image that is not a link. The map can.

Redesigns built on guesses

A heatmap answers layout questions with counts: this button took 57% of the clicks on the page, that banner took none. Quicker than arguing about it.

Content nobody reaches

The scroll map shows what share of visitors reached each part of the page. If 30% ever see the call to action, that is the first thing to fix.

Session recording is overkill

Watching recordings of individual visitors is slow, adds weight to the page and is awkward under GDPR. Aggregated maps answer where people click and how far they read without recording anyone.

Not another tool to buy

Heatmap products are usually another tag, another invoice and another login. This one is part of TLDTrack, in the dashboard you already use, on the snippet you already installed.

02 · The process

How it works

One snippet, aggregate-only collection, and maps drawn over the real page.

01

Install the snippet once

It is the same tag that powers TLDTrack error tracking. If it is already on the site, heatmaps start collecting without any change.

02

Visitors browse as normal

Two small background requests per pageview record clicks, scroll depth and sampled mouse movement as anonymous grid counts. Single-page apps are handled.

03

TLDTrack captures the page

A real browser screenshots each page on demand, at desktop and mobile sizes, so the maps are drawn over the page as it actually looks.

04

Read the map, fix the page

Open any page from the gallery or the sitemap. You get click and movement maps, scroll bands, the most-clicked list and the JavaScript errors seen on that page, filtered by device and date range.

Heatmaps live in the same dashboard as your sitemap, visual monitoring and visitor feedback.

03 · The maps

Every map you need, per page and per device

Pick any page, switch between desktop and mobile, and look at the last 7, 30 or 90 days.

Click hotspots

Shows where clicks and taps land across the whole page. Dead buttons and unexpected favourites stand out straight away.

Most-clicked ranking

Every link and button ranked by clicks, with its share of the total. Elements are named by their visible text, not code selectors.

Scroll maps

Bands show the percentage of visitors who reached each depth of the page, with the drop-off points labelled.

Movement maps

Sampled mouse movement shows where attention sits on the page. No individual session is ever recorded.

Live view in your browser

The TLDTrack Chrome extension draws the click map and scroll bands over the live site while you browse it, with the click ranking in the side panel.

Per-page control

Turn collection off for any page with one click. Your visual sitemap shows a heatmap link and view count against every page.

04 · Web Vitals

Core Web Vitals from your real visitors

The same snippet measures how fast the site actually feels to the people using it. No lab simulation, no extra tag.

LCP

Largest Contentful Paint

How fast the largest visible element loads for your visitors.

INP

Interaction to Next Paint

How fast the page responds to their clicks and taps.

CLS

Cumulative Layout Shift

How much the page jumps around while they use it.

TTFB

Time to First Byte

How long the server takes to start responding.

Each metric is the 75th percentile over the last 30 days, split mobile and desktop, and graded Good, Needs work or Poor with the same thresholds as the weekly lab PageSpeed checks. The vitals sit alongside the heatmaps on each domain, and one snippet powers all four: error tracking, heatmaps, Core Web Vitals and the visitor feedback widget. Each domain has its snippet ready to copy.

05 · Privacy

Privacy-first by design

No cookies are set and no personal data is stored. There is no session recording, no keystroke capture, and form fields are never read. Clicks are stored as anonymous grid counts, daily visitor totals use a hash that rotates daily so nothing links a person across days, and per-page detail is deleted after 90 days.

07 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will heatmaps slow my site down?

No. Collection adds two small background requests per pageview, a few kilobytes at most, sent with the browser's beacon API. There is no recording engine and nothing that runs continuously, so there is no measurable impact on page speed.

Do I need a cookie banner for this?

TLDTrack heatmaps set no cookies and store no personal data: clicks and scrolls are saved as anonymous aggregate counts, and daily visitor totals use a hash that rotates daily. Most sites simply mention the measurement in their privacy policy. If you already show a consent banner for other tools, you can keep loading TLDTrack the same way you load them.

Is this session recording?

No. Nobody's individual visit is recorded or replayable. You see where clicks, movement and scrolling concentrate across all visitors combined.

I already installed the snippet for error tracking. What do I need to do?

Nothing. Heatmaps use the same snippet, so collection starts on its own and each page visitors touch appears in the gallery.

Does it work with single-page apps?

Yes. The snippet detects in-app navigation, so each virtual page in a React, Vue or similar app is measured as its own page with its own heatmap.

How many pageviews are included?

Each plan includes a monthly pageview allowance: 10,000 on Starter, 100,000 on Pro and 500,000 on Agency, across all your sites. If you go over, traffic counting continues so your numbers stay honest, and heatmap detail pauses until the next month.

Which devices and time ranges can I compare?

Every map can be switched between desktop and mobile visitors, and viewed over the last 7, 30 or 90 days. Screenshots are captured per device size, so the mobile heatmap is drawn over the mobile layout.

Does the snippet measure Core Web Vitals too?

Yes. The same snippet measures LCP, INP, CLS and TTFB from your real visitors. You see the 75th percentile over the last 30 days, split mobile and desktop, graded Good, Needs work or Poor with the same thresholds as the lab PageSpeed checks, alongside the heatmaps on each domain.
