Cloud server monitoring

Your AWS, Azure and DigitalOcean servers, next to the sites they run

Connect an AWS, Azure or DigitalOcean account with read-only access and every server and database appears in TLDTrack: whether it is running, how hard it is working, what it costs, and which of your domains depend on it.

01 · What it watches

Servers and databases on three clouds

Each account is connected once. TLDTrack finds what is in it and keeps the list up to date as servers come and go.

AWSAWS EC2 and Lightsail

Instances in every region you have switched on, with their size, vCPUs, memory, IP addresses and tags, plus the AWS status checks.

AWSAmazon RDS

Database instances with their engine, version, storage and status, including maintenance and storage-full states.

AzureAzure virtual machines

Every VM in the subscriptions you connect, with its size, vCPUs, memory, IP addresses and tags, and whether it is running, stopped or deallocated.

AzureAzure SQL, PostgreSQL and MySQL

Azure SQL databases and Azure Database for PostgreSQL and MySQL flexible servers, with their tier, version, storage and status.

DigitalOceanDigitalOcean Droplets

Every Droplet with its size, vCPUs, memory, disk, IP addresses and tags.

DigitalOceanDigitalOcean Managed Databases

Database clusters with their engine, version, size, storage and status.

Using more than one? A filter on the Cloud page shows all accounts or one provider at a time, and every server carries its provider's logo.

02 · Load

How hard each server is working

Charts for the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days on every server page, from the cloud's own monitoring. Nothing to install.

30 days

of charts on every server

CPU and network

CPU use and network in and out for EC2, Lightsail, Azure VMs and Droplets, collected every 5 to 15 minutes depending on your plan.

CPU credits and burst capacity

For burstable EC2 instances and Lightsail, how much of the CPU allowance is left, shown as a percentage, so you can see a server about to slow down.

Database load

For RDS, CPU, storage used, connections and free memory. For Azure, CPU and storage used on SQL databases, plus memory and connections on PostgreSQL and MySQL servers.

Memory on Azure VMs

Azure reports available memory for every VM, so its memory use is charted with nothing to install.

Memory and disk on Droplets

With DigitalOcean's free monitoring agent installed on a Droplet, its memory and disk use are charted too.

03 · Alerts

Told when a server needs you

Cloud alerts go out on the same channels as everything else: email, SMS, mobile push, Slack, Microsoft Teams and webhooks.

A server stops or goes into an error state
AWS status checks failing
High CPU for a sustained period
CPU credits or burst capacity running out
Database CPU, storage or connections
A day's spend jumping above normal
Spend passing a monthly budget
An account connection needing attention

04 · Spend

What the account is costing you

Spend is read once a day from AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management or DigitalOcean billing and shown in pounds, dollars or euros.

Daily

spend by service

This month, forecast and last month

Month to date, a forecast for the month and last month's total, with a budget per account if you want one.

Daily spend by service

A 30-day chart split into compute, databases, storage and network, and a list of this month's biggest services. Tax is listed separately so the monthly charge does not swamp the chart.

A cost estimate per server

Each server shows an estimated monthly cost from the provider's published prices: AWS on-demand list prices, Azure pay-as-you-go VM prices, or the Droplet's own price. Estimates leave out disks on EC2 and Azure, data transfer and discounts, so use them to compare servers and the spend card for what you are billed.

In your currency

Choose pounds, dollars or euros. Amounts are converted at the daily European Central Bank rate from the currency each provider bills in.

05 · Domains

Linked to the domains they run

A server is only half the story. Link it to the domains it hosts and each domain page shows the server behind it.

Suggested from DNS

TLDTrack already reads every domain's DNS. When a domain's A or AAAA record points at a server's public IP, it is suggested, ready to link with one click.

On the domain page

A Cloud servers panel on the domain's Hosting tab shows each linked server's status, size, CPU over the last day, network or storage, and estimated monthly cost.

In the stat cards

Add a Cloud servers card to the top of any domain page for its servers' status, busiest CPU and monthly cost at a glance.

06 · Access

Read-only, by design

TLDTrack can see your servers and your bill. It cannot change, start, stop or delete anything.

01

AWS: one-click read-only role

A CloudFormation stack creates a role TLDTrack can assume, limited to read actions and locked to your account with an external ID. No keys are stored, and deleting the stack removes access.

02

Azure: one Cloud Shell command

Paste one command into Azure Cloud Shell. It creates a sign-in for TLDTrack with the Reader role on your subscription, and you paste what it prints back into TLDTrack. It is stored encrypted, and deleting the app registration removes access.

03

DigitalOcean: a read-only token

Create a token with read scopes for account, Droplets, databases, monitoring and billing, and paste it in. It is stored encrypted and never shown again.

04

Checks start straight away

TLDTrack verifies what the access can read, lists your servers within a minute or two, and starts checking them every 5 minutes.

On AWS, reading metrics and costs adds a small amount to your own AWS bill. TLDTrack keeps Cost Explorer to at most six requests a day.

08 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which cloud providers does TLDTrack support?

AWS, Microsoft Azure and DigitalOcean. On AWS it monitors EC2, Lightsail and RDS. On Azure it monitors virtual machines, Azure SQL databases and PostgreSQL and MySQL flexible servers. On DigitalOcean it monitors Droplets and Managed Databases. You can connect accounts from all three and filter between them.

Can TLDTrack change anything in my cloud account?

No. On AWS it uses a role limited to read actions, on Azure a sign-in with the Reader role, and on DigitalOcean a token with read scopes only. It cannot start, stop, resize or delete anything, and you can remove its access at any time.

Do I need to install an agent?

No. Status, CPU, network and costs come from the providers' own APIs. On DigitalOcean, if a Droplet runs DigitalOcean's free monitoring agent, its memory and disk use are shown as well.

How often are servers checked?

Status every 5 minutes. CPU and network every 5 to 15 minutes depending on your plan. Spend once a day.

Will it add to my AWS bill?

On AWS, a little: AWS charges for CloudWatch metric reads and for Cost Explorer requests, and TLDTrack keeps Cost Explorer to at most six requests a day. Azure and DigitalOcean do not charge for the reads TLDTrack makes.

How accurate are the per-server cost estimates?

They use the providers' published prices: AWS on-demand list prices or Azure pay-as-you-go prices for 730 hours a month, or the Droplet's own monthly price. They leave out disks, data transfer, discounts, reservations and Savings Plans. Your actual spend is on the Spend card, read from your bill.
