WordPress plugin monitoring

WordPress plugin monitoring across every site you run

WordPress plugin monitoring tells you when the plugins on a site change. Install the free TLDTrack plugin and you get an alert when a plugin is installed, removed, updated, activated or deactivated, and when an admin account appears or disappears.

01 · Alerts

What you are alerted to

Plugins

Installed, removed, updated, switched on or off

Each alert names the plugin and, for an update, the old and new version numbers.

Admins

Admin accounts added or removed

A new administrator is a critical alert. Admin accounts are part of the plugin's regular report, so a new one shows up at the next report, which runs twice a day.

Updates

Updates waiting

Each site's last report lists the plugin, theme and WordPress updates available for it.

Failures

A pushed update fails

If an update you sent from the dashboard fails on the site, you get an alert.

02 · Reports

What the plugin reports

The plugin sends a report twice a day, and straight away after an update or install, a plugin being switched on or off, or a theme switch.

  • WordPress version, and whether a core update is waiting
  • Every plugin: version, active or not, and any update available
  • Every theme: version, which one is active, its parent theme and any update available
  • User counts by role, and the list of administrators
  • PHP and MySQL versions, memory limit, multisite and debug mode

03 · Updates

Run updates from the dashboard

01

See what is waiting

Each site's last report lists the updates available for its plugins, themes and WordPress itself.

02

Queue the updates

Pick the updates to run on a site. Up to 20 can be queued for a site at once, and asking twice does not queue the same update twice.

03

The site runs them

TLDTrack pings the site to pick up the work, and the plugin also checks for queued updates every 15 minutes. Updates run through WordPress's own updater.

04

You see the result

Each update reports success or failure back to the dashboard. A failure raises an alert.

Dashboard updates need plugin version 3.3.0 or later. A site that asks for FTP details before installing updates cannot use them.

04 · No plugin

Checks that need no plugin

TLDTrack spots WordPress from the outside and offers checks that read the public pages.

  • A database connection error showing on the homepage
  • Maintenance mode left switched on
  • PHP debug output showing on the page
  • wp-login.php reachable by anyone

06 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the plugin free?

Yes. The TLDTrack plugin costs nothing to install. It sends its reports to your TLDTrack account.

How quickly will I hear about a plugin change?

The plugin reports straight away when a plugin is installed, updated, activated or deactivated, and TLDTrack raises the alert when that report arrives. Other changes, such as a plugin deleted over FTP, show up at the next report, which runs twice a day.

Does it alert me when a theme changes?

Theme versions, the active theme and theme updates are reported and shown on the site, but a theme change does not raise an alert.

Can I update plugins from TLDTrack?

Yes, site by site. Queue plugin, theme or WordPress updates for a site and its plugin runs them through WordPress's own updater, then reports back.

What happens if someone removes the plugin?

TLDTrack stops getting reports from that site, so plugin and admin alerts stop for it. Uptime, SSL, DNS and the other outside checks carry on.
