Honest comparison · updated July 2026

TLDTrack vs Better Stack two different jobs, compared honestly

Better Stack is built for engineering teams: uptime, on-call rotas, incident management and logs. TLDTrack is built for the people responsible for websites: everything about a domain that can silently go wrong, watched from one dashboard.

Short version

Pick Better Stack if: you run your own infrastructure and need on-call scheduling, escalation policies, incident timelines and log aggregation. It is excellent at all of that.

Pick TLDTrack if: you look after websites and client domains rather than servers, and the failures that hurt you are DNS changes, expired certificates, blacklist hits, broken content and missed renewals, not pager rotations.

02 · The difference

Watching servers is not the same as watching websites

Both tools tell you a site is down. They disagree about what else is worth knowing.

Better Stack’s world

Your team owns the infrastructure. When something breaks, the right engineer gets paged, an incident opens, logs are at hand, and an AI-written post-mortem follows. Its AI runs in the ops direction: root-cause analysis, not website checks.

TLDTrack’s world

You are responsible for websites, often other people’s. The failures that hurt are silent: a DNS record changed, a certificate lapsed, a blacklist hit landed, a client edited a page into something wrong. Monitoring is the process.

The overlap

Uptime, SSL and status pages. If that overlap is all you need, compare the price of Better Stack’s paid tier against TLDTrack’s, then look at which direction you will grow.

TLDTrack is right if…

  • You manage client websites, not your own server fleet
  • DNS, blacklists, malware, email health and renewals are your risks
  • You want content and visual changes caught, not just downtime
  • Slack, Teams or webhook alerts and heartbeat checks on crons cover your ops need
  • One flat price for the whole portfolio matters more than 30-second checks
  • You are an agency, freelancer, or hosting reseller

Better Stack is right if…

  • You run an engineering team with an on-call rotation
  • You want incidents, logs and uptime in one developer-focused tool
  • Sub-minute detection on critical endpoints is a hard requirement
  • Its free tier of 10 monitors already covers everything you need

04 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is TLDTrack a Better Stack alternative?

For uptime, SSL and domain-expiry monitoring on business websites, yes, and TLDTrack adds DNS change detection, blacklists, malware, email health and content monitoring on top. For on-call scheduling, incident management and log aggregation, no, that is Better Stack’s core and TLDTrack does not attempt it.

Can I use both together?

Yes, and teams do. Better Stack pages the engineers when infrastructure breaks; TLDTrack watches the domains themselves, DNS, certificates, blacklists, content and renewals, and alerts whoever owns the client relationship.

Better Stack checks every 30 seconds. Does the interval matter?

It depends what you are protecting. For an API where every second of downtime pages someone, 30-second checks earn their keep. For business websites, catching downtime within 5 minutes plus catching everything that is not downtime is usually the better trade.

How does pricing compare?

Better Stack’s pricing is modular: paid uptime starts at about $21-25/month for a 50-monitor pack, with logs, incident-management workflows, responder seats, extra status pages and Playwright minutes all priced separately on top. TLDTrack starts at $11/month with all nine check types included; you never buy checks as separate products.

Does TLDTrack have status pages too?

Yes. Every site you monitor can have its own public status page on a link that needs no account, showing a status banner, a 90-day availability strip and one row per check, with per-page control over which checks appear, an optional password and your own branding. Better Stack’s status pages are more customisable; TLDTrack’s are one page per site and included with the monitoring.
