TLDTrack browser extension

Browser Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 July 2026

This policy explains what the TLDTrack browser extension ("the extension") does with your data. It applies only to the extension. Your TLDTrack account and website data are covered by the main TLDTrack Privacy Policy.

Who the extension is for

The extension is a companion to a TLDTrack account. It works only when you connect it to your account and only on the websites you already track in TLDTrack.

What data the extension handles

  • The current tab's address (URL). The extension reads the URL of the tab you are viewing to work out which of your tracked websites and pages you are on. It is sent to TLDTrack's servers when you use the extension so it can load that page's notes, issues and monitors.
  • Elements you choose. When you pick an element to monitor, or ask to highlight an issue, the extension reads that element's location on the page (a CSS selector) and its current text or attribute value. For a monitor, the selector and that baseline value are sent to TLDTrack so the monitor can be created and checked on a schedule.
  • Notes and tasks you type. These are saved to your TLDTrack account, against the page you added them on.
  • A connection token. When you connect the extension, TLDTrack issues a token that is stored locally in your browser to keep you signed in. It is not shared with anyone else.

Website access

The extension does not have standing access to the websites you visit. It asks for permission to access a specific website only at the moment you choose to pick an element or highlight an issue on it, and only for sites in your account. You can decline, and you can revoke a site's access at any time in your browser's extension settings.

What the extension does not do

  • It does not collect your general browsing history or record the pages you visit outside of using its features.
  • It does not contain any advertising or analytics trackers.
  • It does not sell your data or share it with third parties.
  • It does not run any remotely hosted code. All of its code is included in the published extension.

How the data is used

The website content described above (the current URL and any element you select) and the authentication token are used only to provide the extension's features: connecting to your account, showing notes and issues for the page, and creating and listing monitors. They are not used for any other purpose.

Storage and retention

Notes, tasks and monitors you create are stored in your TLDTrack account until you delete them. The connection token stored in your browser is removed when you disconnect the extension (which also revokes it on our servers) or when it expires. Data sent to TLDTrack is handled as described in the main TLDTrack Privacy Policy.
